Pregnancy

For your Baby. . . for your Health.

Wellness programs for the child-bearing year.

Pregnancy is an exciting and challenging time in a woman's life. Your body grows to nourish and protect this new little being, presenting some of the most difficult changes a woman must face.

There may be pain associated with the rapid shifts in posture, as your body adjusts to the weight of the baby.

You may find yourself frustrated at the difficulty of performing seemingly simple tasks.

Your body image will change as you try to stay familiar with the new person you see in the mirror each day.

Body Work can help!

Easing Aches & Pains

Many of the discomforts commonly associated with pregnancy can be eased through Bodywork*

Massage:

Promotes body awareness, helping the women to focus on the many changes and joys of her body and her baby.
Relieves pain in muscles and joints that are supporting extra weight
Eases constipation, gas and heartburn, as general relaxation stimulates intestinal movement
Reduces swelling by gently pushing excess fluid into the circulatory system
Relieves headaches and other symptoms of stress by promoting general relaxation
Provides a safe nurturing environment for the mother to learn the benefits of gentle touch.
Research shows that this type of touch is very beneficial to the baby, even before birth!

Exercise and Self Care:

You will learn relaxation and visualization techniques to help you cope with the stresses associated with pregnancy, labor and being a new parent.

You will be taught very specific and safe exercises that help to support your body as it changes, especially in the 2nd and 3rd trimester.

You will be taught exercises that strengthen your pelvic floor, to prepare your body for labor.  These exercises should be continued through the postpartum period, and throughout your life to prevent incontinence and other problems as you age.

  Labor Support

You and your partner will be taught specific techniques that can be used to help you relax during labor, and to help ease the pains of contraction

*   if your pregnancy is high-risk, or if there are complications, your therapist will work very closely with your Midwife or Doctor to ensure that all activities are safe for you and your baby.
